Illumination in Roman times

What happened in Roman homes when the sun went down? How did they cope with the darkness? This workshop explores the topic of lighting in the ancient world. After a brief overview of public and private lighting systems, attention will focus on terracotta lamps. Students will then be invited to get their hands dirty and try making their own terracotta lamps, either by hand-shaping the clay or using molds.
