The archaeological areas

Discover the archaeological areas of the Euganean Spas from which most of the finds preserved in the museo del termalismo antico e del territorio!

They are mainly located in the municipalities of Montegrotto Terme and Abano Terme and, taken together, constitute an impressive archaeological park rich in mysteries that have not yet been solved.

Unlike other archaeological parks, it is relatively "young": although archaeological interest in the area began in the 18th century, some of the greatest finds actually date back to the end of the last century and the first decades of the 2000s. It was only 1988 when, during some plowing work on a field on Via Neroniana, the first finds emerged of what we now know to have been one of the most luxurious villas of the Roman era (the villa dates back to the 1st century AD).

In recent years, thanks to the careful supervision of the University of Padua, the Aquae Patavinae project, named after the ancient Euganean Baths, has been established to study and enhance the archaeological sites in the area.

The park of Villa Draghi

Lose yourself in the Villa Draghi park, which, with its 32 hectares of pristine nature and its privileged location, is the perfect place to savor the full panorama of the Euganean Hills!

In addition to being the ideal site for summer events and orienteering initiatives, the park is also particularly suitable for nature trails and recreational moments for families and school groups.

In this scenario, the museo del termalismo antico e del territorio, in what is called the "rustico" of Villa Draghi, one of the annexed buildings. The rustico, which stands at the foot of Mount Alto, is actually the oldest building in the architectural complex, constructed at the end of the 15th century.

The villa, however, is of more recent origin: it was built between 1848 and 1850 by the architect Scapin in the villa-castle form we still observe today. The site of the villa previously housed the holiday home of the wealthy Venetian accountant Alvise Lucadelli, who had already recognized the restorative potential of the climate and the natural surroundings of the park.

Adjacent to the museum, at the entrance to the park, is the "A Perdifiato" bike rental shop, where you can explore not only the Villa Draghi park but also the trails in the Euganean Hills that branch off from there by bike or e-bike.
