Presented on Saturday at Museo del termalismo antico And del territorio the work of multimedia artist Sara Bonaventura
In fifteen minutes of images, a poetic reflection on the profound connection between water, ancestral microorganisms, the environment and the human psyche. It is thevideo installation of the multimedia artist Sara Bonaventura, That It was presented to the public on Saturday 17 October And Now will enter permanently into the exhibition itinerary of the Museo del termalismo antico And del territorio of Montegrotto Terme.
From the title “Thermal Alchemy”, the project was born within the framework of the European residencies of the S+T+Arts Aqua Motion platform, which sees among its partners the UNESCO Network of Water Museums (WAMU-NET) of which the museum has been a member since 2025.
The meeting opened with the greeting of Riccardo Mortandello, Mayor of Montegrotto Terme, who highlighted: "In recent years, our administration has undertaken a multifaceted process of culturally enhancing and enhancing the identity of spa tourism in Montegrotto Terme. This includes the creation of the Museum, which has now strengthened its role as a space for contemporary innovation, where science, art, and memory converge, thanks also to this new artistic work that engages in a profound dialogue with the scientific and historical richness of Montegrotto."
The artist chose to explore the composition of the Euganean thermal waters, custodians of a profound intertwining of water and life. These waters foster the growth of cyanobacteria, microorganisms that enrich thermal mud with bioactive molecules, contributing to its therapeutic properties. Their history spans ancient times: through photosynthesis, cyanobacteria contributed to the Earth's oxygenation, transforming it and paving the way for the development of complex life forms. In the microcosm of mud, we thus find a link between the history of the planet and body care. "Realizing"Thermal Alchemy"It was first of all a journey of discovery, of listening and of knowledge of the territory and its great wealth – said theartist author of the work Sara Bonaventura –, starting from its deepest and most identifying dimension. I hope the work will leave a lasting impression on those who see it, because knowing the history of the thermal waters, their origins, and their role in the life of the area also means starting to look at it differently.
He also intervened Eriberto Eulisse, director of the World Network of Water Museums (WAMU-NET), a UNESCO-IHP flagship project, who explained: "To manage the ecological transition and adapt to climate change today, technological innovation alone is no longer enough, and we want to spread this awareness through the Internet. The Montegrotto artist residency is a step in this direction, serving as an educational model for more forward-thinking and participatory management of water resources in the Veneto region, Italy, and beyond."
